I’ve never gone shopping on Black Friday.
My parents never yielded to my requests during my teenage years, opting instead for a lazy day with family and turkey sandwiches and pie. Thank goodness for the wisdom that comes with age.
The lure of driving to the mall or shopping center wore off long ago, though when my son was a baby, I did take advantage of Black Friday online deals for cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are quite the investment.
I don’t believe in buying things just because I’m told to buy things on a specific day. I don’t believe in the frenzy of it al—frenzy feels too much like anxiety, and that’s not a feeling I’m trying to cultivate.
But I do believe in beauty.
And in supporting people who create art that sparks something in me, be it inspiration or gratitude or creativity.
In the spirit of sharing beauty and the connection that comes from art, I want to introduce you to three of my favorite artists.
Little Truths Studio
Lori’s nature based watercolor prints and greeting cards evoke gratitude, connection to nature and each other, and wonder.
The Far Woods
Sisters Sonya and Nina create prints and textiles that inspire me to both dig into the earth and raise my hands for the protection and celebration of our diverse human, plant, and animal family.
I’m off now to eat pie for breakfast—the perfect preparation for our family hike 🙂
I wish you all a beautiful, lively day. May you find inspiration and sit in gratitude and enjoy all that left-over pie.
